My name is Nick De Rudder. I'm an artist from Belgium. Born and raised in Ghent. My work exists of various subjects and techniques. My source of inspiration comes from dark subjects, old manuscripts and primitive cultures, especially oriental cultures. I interpret these images in an modern way and bend the rules of witch they exist. They inspire me because it’s so far away. I believe that people in modern society are addicted to entertainment, they live for amusement and pleasure. “Beauty is fleeting but the love for it will never pass”. Maybe this is the reason why I keep on being entertained by cultures who exist far away from my environment? The biggest artist who ever lived in my opinion is Mother nature. That’s why I link my nude model drawings to my paintings. My way of thinking is mostly similar with the train of thought of primitivism, for example bright colors of old Japanese prints, thick outlining of old church glass and ornaments on old tapestry … Then there is also music, a hobby of mine, having fun is of course the most important part of it. My other work, I take really seriously and is very important to me.
